Tonbo Sitting Pretty in Japan

// August 28th, 2009 // Comments // photography

“Quickly grasshopper, snatch the Tonbo from my hand”. A dragon fly or “Tonbo” in Japanese is popular for young kids to catch during the summer. My two daughters had a blast this summer running around with their nets and plastic bug cases trying to catch these.

Sunflower Exposure

// August 21st, 2009 // Comments // photography

Sunflower Exposure is a shot where I purposely overexposed the petals for two reasons. First I wanted to bring out the central part along with the bee. Second I wanted to canvas the background in yellow and green colors to form more of a texture or pattern rather than a flower. I also wanted this photo to come out more saturated and bright. Very little Photoshop was used on this photo. You can see how one can really alter the color, texture, and brightness of a photo just by fiddling with the exposure. This was a fun shot.

Train Crossing August Japan

// August 19th, 2009 // Comments // video

A short clip of a train zipping through a train crossing here in Nagano City, Japan. I’m in the car with my Creative Vado HD. It was a very hot day. Stopping at train crossings is an everyday occurrence for me in Japan. You have to be careful although the stop light and warning signals are pretty good.

Sunflowers in Nagano City Japan

// July 15th, 2009 // Comments // photography

Sunflowers are starting to bloom here in Japan. There are many around where I live and I think they are quite fabulous to see. They can get pretty big and the yellow is very beautiful. This is just a short clip taken with the Creative Vado HD to give you an idea of how they can be seen in Japan. This particular shot was taken near Nagano city in a residential area. Although these are pretty big, you can actually find sunflowers much bigger than this around the countryside. There are also a lot of bees around them too so you have to be careful.
